Cruising Whitsunday Islands

Very early morning start today. Peter was not impressed about being dragged out of bed at 5.50am
Heading out of the Port of Airlie and watching the sun rise over the hills. Caught a glimpse of Humpback as it was heading south down he Whitsunday passage. Quick stops at Daydream and Hamilton Islands, spending the morning cruising out to Whitehaven Beach. The Whitsunday Islands are much closer together than I remembered(it was 1980 the last time I was here) and very rugged and mountainous.
I think Emma was in girly heaven! She spent an hour sitting in the sunshine, using the sand to scrub her skin. The sand is 98% pure silica sand. Pure enough to make glass, and according to Emma, the best exfoliation she has ever had.
The kids loved running in the sand and playing in the crystal clear water.
Peter was so excited about the large number of helicopters and planes flying over, we saw one seaplane come in to land and then two take off.

There are a number of deserted resorts on the islands, quite surprising. Was a shame that the underwater observatory was never repaired after the last cyclone that went through damaged it.
Back on the boat and off to Hamilton Island for lunch and sightseeing.
Nice lunch by the marina, then hired a golf buggy to hoot around the island for an hour. Kids thought that was real treat. Some pretty spectacular views, and a lot of people with an insane amount of money to spend on houses!

We had a change of boats for the trip back to Airlie. Front row rooftop seats for he sunset cruise, was just magic.
A massive day for us all, not getting back to the caravan until around 7pm but worth every minute!
